Orchiata is a premium orchid substrate made from 100% New Zealand Pinus radiata bark, sustainably harvested from renewable plantation forests. The bark is aged through a controlled composting process, reaching temperatures exceeding 150°F to eliminate pathogens while fostering the growth of beneficial microbes—Trichoderma and Penicillium among them. These microbes help create a healthier root environment and provide natural resistance to disease.
During aging, the bark’s outer surface is gently broken down, which improves its ability to hold water and nutrients. It holds moisture and nutrients on the outer surface—delivering water and applied nutrients efficiently from the start, while the core remains stable and well-draining.
