Grassroots fabric beds are the better way to grow. Handcrafted by skilled craftspeople from an American-made geotextile, Grassroots Fabric Beds encourage airflow, prevent root binding, keep the soil cool, and foster healthier, more productive plants. Traditional fabric pots drain and dry from all sides. This can cause uneven drainage and dry pockets, and require more frequent watering. Grassroots provides an innovative approach to fabric-grow beds with our Living Soil Fabric Beds. Featuring a waterproof liner and bottom aeration strip, Living Soil Fabric Beds recreate the top-down drying pattern that is found in nature. This ensures optimum moisture retention, eliminates dry pockets, and helps to cultivate essential microbes.
Benefits of Living Soil Fabric Beds
Optimized Depth
These beds are custom-built at a 12" depth, which we’ve found to be optimal for living soil systems in both home and commercial growing environments. Unlike deeper 18" beds, which can be prone to anaerobic zones when placed on solid surfaces, the 12" profile promotes healthy aerobic conditions and more efficient root zone oxygenation. This depth also reduces unnecessary soil volume—helping lower input costs—while allowing for more frequent watering and nutrient applications, such as compost teas and liquid organics, for more responsive plant care.
18" beds available by request.
Reduced Water & Energy Use
By preventing drainage and drying from all sides of the container, Living Soil Fabric Beds lengthen the wet-to-dry soil cycle. That means less water usage and lower humidity indoors.
Even Moisture + Drainage
Traditional fabric beds drain from all sides, which can cause dry pockets. Our Living Soil Fabric Beds direct water downward, ensuring even distribution throughout.
Improved Aeration
The 4” aeration strip prevents roots from circling the bottom of the container by allowing air to circulate from below. Our Living Soil Fabric Beds also encourage soil to dry from the top down, mimicking the way soil dries in nature.
Fabric Bed Features
