Black Soldier Fly Frass 3-2-2

Biologically Active Fertilizer | Slow-Release Nutrition | Supports Plant Resilience

Granulated Black Soldier Fly Frass is a sustainable, insect-derived fertilizer made from the natural byproduct of black soldier fly larvae. It provides a balanced 3-2-2 nutrient profile, along with organic matter and biologically active compounds that support soil health and steady plant growth.

This frass contains both readily available and slow-release nutrients, helping deliver immediate support while continuing to feed plants over time. Its natural chitin content supports beneficial soil microbial activity, contributing to stronger, more resilient plants.

The granulated format allows for clean, easy application and gradual breakdown with watering, making it ideal for gardens, containers, lawns, and perennial crops.

Sourced from larvae raised on traceable, pre-consumer food waste, this product supports a more circular and efficient approach to plant nutrition.

đŸŒ± Key Benefits

‱ Provides balanced, slow-release nutrition for steady growth

‱ Supports healthy soil biology and nutrient cycling

‱ Helps improve soil structure and moisture retention

‱ Encourages strong root development and plant vigor

‱ Easy-to-use granular format for topdressing and mixing

‱ Low risk of burn when used as directed

‱ Contains natural chitin, which supports beneficial microbes and helps activate plant defense responses

Plant roots can detect chitin fragments in the soil through specialized receptors. Because chitin is associated with fungi and insects, it acts as a natural signal that can trigger defense pathways. This process, known as induced resistance or immune priming, helps plants respond more effectively to stress, supporting stronger, more resilient growth.

💧 How to Use (Granulated)

Garden Beds & Raised Beds

Apply up to 400 g per 1 mÂČ (approx. 10 ftÂČ).
Distribute evenly and lightly incorporate into the top 2–5 cm (1–2") of soil, or leave as a surface application.
Water in after application.

Apply every 4–6 weeks during the growing season.

Containers

Apply approximately 1 tbsp per plant, or œ–1 tbsp per 4 L (1 gallon) of soil.
Sprinkle evenly over the soil surface and lightly mix in if desired.
Water after application.

Reapply every 3–4 weeks during active growth.

Soil Pre-Mix

Incorporate 45 mL per 4 L (3 tbsp per gallon) of soil prior to planting.

For bulk soil blends, apply up to 3.5 kg (7.7 lb) per cubic yard, mixed evenly throughout.

Fruit Trees & Berry Crops

Apply around the drip line, where feeder roots are concentrated.

  • Young trees: 50–100 mL (3–6 tbsp) per tree
  • Mature trees: 200–400 mL (Ÿ–1œ cups) per tree
  • Berry plants: 15–30 mL (1–2 tbsp) per plant

Apply to the soil surface and water in.
Repeat 2–3 times per growing season.

đŸ« Acid-Loving Plants (Blueberries, etc.)

Suitable for acid-loving crops. Black soldier fly frass is pH-neutral to slightly acidic and does not significantly alter soil pH at recommended rates.

📅 Seasonal Timing

  • Early Spring: supports root and microbial activity as soils warm
  • Late Spring to Early Summer: maintains nutrient availability during active growth
  • Mid-Summer: supports flowering and fruit development
